NUK Announcement on Foregin Student Admission Academic Year 2008

Applicants should not have the legal status as an overseas Chinese or hold a R.O.C. nationality, as defined in the Article 2 of Law of Nationality. Those who have renounced R.O.C. nationality for less than 8 years are not entitled to apply as foreign students. But under academic or cultural exchange agreements, foreign students can apply to NUK. Overseas Chinese who do not hold the Republic of China nationality may nevertheless apply for the status of “Overseas Chinese Student” or “Foreign Student” at NUK. The admission of the applicants found to use both statuses will be revoked.

Foreign students who have applied for undergraduate study at NUK and have completed the degree may not apply for the same degree program again, but they can apply for graduate study. Foreign students who have been expelled from any university in R.O.C may not apply for studying and degree program at NUK. Foreign students with a diploma granted by an undergraduate or college or a higher education institution are eligible to apply for graduate study at NUK.

Foreign students who have applied for undergraduate study at NUK and have completed the degree may not apply for the same degree program again, but they can apply for graduate study. Foreign students who have been expelled from any university in R.O.C may not apply for studying any degree program at NUK. Violation of either of the above rules would result in nullification of the applicant’s admission or the revocation of the applicant’s acquired status as a student or a graduate of NUK, as the case may be. Foreign students who have completed a degree program in R.O.C. and desire to study for advanced program shall follow the admission procedures as R.O.C. domestic students. Foreign students who graduate from a school for foreigners located in R.O.C. or from a bilingual division (program) affiliated with a senior high school in R.O.C. may use the graduation certificate to apply for admission to NUK.

The application form can either be obtained by mail from Academic Services at NUK or be downloaded from NUK’s web-site which is located at http://exam.nuk.edu.tw.

Applicants are required to submit the following documents by April 30, 2008 to:

Division of Academic Affairs at NUK: No. 700, Kaohsiung University Road, Nan-Tzu District, Kaohsiung 81148, Taiwan.

  • A copy of the completed application form.
  • The applicant must submit a photocopy of the highest original diploma which was proved by Taiwan, ROC representative office abroad already obtained and a notarized Chinese or English translated copy. Admitted students must produce the original diploma at NUK when they register as NUK undergraduate students.
  • Official transcripts of academic records which were proved by Taiwan, ROC representative office abroad already obtained in English or Chinese with imprinted seal or sealed by signature of the registrar of the issuing school.
  • Statement of purpose and study plans in Chinese or English.
  • Three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a teacher of Chinese language or someone that has the authority to prove the applicant’s proficiency in Chinese.
  • Financial statement support which was proved by Taiwan, ROC representative office abroad already obtained.
  • Autobiography.
  • Letter of Authorization.
  • NT$ 1,500 as application fee. Remit to NUK’s bank account at Land Bank of Taiwan, Kaohsiung Branch, swift code (LBOTTWTP033) Account No. 033 056 000 076 (National University of Kaohsiung). Please attach the original bank telegram transfer receipt to your application.
  • Applicants from Burma must provide a photocopy of TOEFL test result of at least 500 points (PBT) or 173 points (CBT) when they apply. They must also hold a passport valid for at least 3 years after date of entry.
Applications made after the deadline will not be accepted.

Of the 18 departments and 18 research institutes at National University of Kaohsiung, 10 Bachelor and 7 Master Programs are open to foreign student application in the 2008 academic year. Information is presently available for the related departments. All relevant inquiries can be made by the applicant by telephoning NUK at 886-7-591-9035.
