The National University of Kaohsiung is the first national university to combine both library and computing services into an integrated library and information centre. The Library and Information Centre at the National University of Kaohsiung, located in the middle of the campus, is a building of 6 levels on the ground and 2 levels underground, providing a base area of 810,637 square metres and a total floor area of 32,534.14 square metres. In addition to traditional loan and reference services, the Library and Information Centre, incorporating library, computing and multimedia resources, will promote electronic, digital and online services so as to provide comprehensive and consolidated information service to the staff and students of the University. The Library and Information Centre can accommodate 2000 reader seats and house 600000 books. It is also open to the community in the hope of establishing an educated society for lifelong learning. |

The National University of Kaohsiung is not only a new and developing academic institution of e-generation established in the millennium year, but also serves as support for the set-up of the second “Corridor of Technology” of Taiwan; therefore, well utilising campus information facilities to achieve efficiency is one of the many important missions of the establishment of the University. In August 1997, a special team of campus information was organised to take charge of the planning and development of both hardware and software required by the frameworks of school administration, teaching research and campus network.
To increase the efficiency of the management of school administration, we have been dedicated to the development and online use of all information systems of the University. School administrative information systems available online at present are listed as follows:
Administrative Management Information System
Management systems: Personnel & Insurance, Official Business and Duty, Electronic Official Documents, Cashier Section, Salary & Wage, Property, Purchase, Fund Enquiry, Listing & Tracking, Calendar/Event Records, Repair, Mails, Internal Conference Bulletins, and Notice Boards.
Educational Administration Management Information System
Management systems: Student Status, Courses, Grades/Scores, Admission, and Online Course Selection.
Academic Administration Management Information System
Management systems: Student Accommodation, Exemplification & Reduction of Tuition and Fees, Military Training, Student Loans, Psychological Consultation, Tutors & Tuitees, and Students Working Part-Time On Campus.

Introduction to Audio-Visual Learning Area |

With the rapid growth of technology, the form of information has been diversified. The application of audio-visual materials to both research and learning is also becoming popular. The Library and Information Centre provides users with a diverse array of resources. All audio-visual materials, few specific items excepted, are on open access on open shelves in the reading and audio-visual areas.

The Audio-Visual Learning Area, located in the north side of the third floor in the Library and Information Building, is divided into Audio-Visual Material Collection Area, Individual Learning Area (39 seats), Audio-Visual Material Playing Area (12 seats), Music Area (24 seats), Database Retrieval Area (4 seats), Library Catalogue Area, Multifunctional Laboratory, and 2 laboratories open for small groups. We consolidate the library collection in hope of providing the staff and students with a comfortable, convenient, open, practical and safe learning environment.
Audio-Visual Collection Area The area provides a variety of audio-visual materials, such as CD-ROMs, multimedia sets, CDs, cassettes, video tapes and so one
Individual Learning Area
There are 39 seats with independent and personalised seating design in the area, where users can choose materials according to personal preferences.
Audio-Visual Material Playing Area
Twelve seats are installed in the area. What material to be played is assigned by the Centre from the collection. 4 channels are available at present. Information of daily releases is posted on the Notice Board of the site as well as on the “Latest News” webpage of our website.
Library Catalogue Area
Readers can retrieve current collections via the internet. Music Area In the area are 24 seats, and 15 channels broadcast music programmes to listeners during the opening hours of the Audio-Visual Learning Area.
Group Laboratories The laboratories may be reserved for use on application by a group of 5 staff members or students plus. Hardware equipment includes 100-inch projection screens, OH projectors, DVD players, video recorders, power controls with IC cards, stereos, central-controlled management modules, and easy-operation interfaces.
Database Retrieval Area
The area accommodates 4 seats, providing a variety of electronic resources of online databases, CD-ROM databases, encyclopaedia, laws & regulations, patents, statistics, yearbooks, and library-own electronic reference catalogues.
