Introduction

On August 1st, 2000, National University of Kaohsiung founded the Department of Finance. It is a learning-, teaching-, and research-friendly environment for our faculty members as well as our students. To keep up with the rapid change of the financial markets and global economy , we expect to perform high- quality finance research and cultivate well-trained finance graduates. Furthermore, we can offer consulting services to help upgrade industries in Kaohsiung area. Our program emphasizes on theoretical studies as well as empirical analyses, providing comprehensive courses closely linked to our daily life and economic activities.

Finance plays an important role in management sciences, which may be classified into Corporate Finance, Investment, Financial Institutions and Markets, and Financial Engineering. The comprehensive exploration includes fiscal and monetary policies, development and management of securities and financial markets, corporate governance, investment decision-making and portfolio management, risk management, and international financial management.
Future Prospects

We aim to cultivate financial professionals with a solid grounding in both theory and the practice of finance. Our blueprints for future development are as follows:

A. Short-Term Missions (5-year Goals):
Recruit outstanding finance instructors
Design and launch the optimal courses to train top financial analysts
Cultivate financial professionals equipped with academic theories and empirical practices
Provide on-the-job training for financial experts in Kaohsiung area
Offer a master's program in finance to cultivate upper-level financial experts
Support and coordinate with National University of Kaohsiung for teaching and research

B. Our Long-term Mission (5-10 year Goals):
Recruit distinguished finance scholars
Design financial training courses suitable for both academia and practice
Cultivate new finance professionals equipped with academic theories and empirical practices
Provide on-the-job training for upper-level financial experts in Kaohsiung area
Offer a doctoral program in finance to cultivate advanced financial research and teaching talents
Support and coordinate with National University of Kaohsiung for teaching and research

Note 2: Selection of all compulsory and optional core courses shall be based upon the courses provided by the Department. Alteration of courses shall be done on application to the Department Office two days prior to the deadline of course selecting and dropping (see academic calendar).

Option Modules include “Core Modules (optional)” offered by the Department as well as courses provided by other departments.
Provided that students abandon the Education Track, credits they have received may still be admitted as part of “Option Modules”.
Overtaken credits for General Education may not be accepted as part of “Option Modules” or graduation credits.
